Pest Control in Tomato Whiteflies

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a flowering plant of the nightshade family, cultivated extensively for its edible fruits. Although commonly categorized as a vegetable for nutritional purposes, tomatoes are botanically classified as berries.
The top tomato-producing countries include China, India, Turkey, the United States, and Italy, while Mexico and Brazil are other notable countries for their tomato cultivation. Eggplant, also known as aubergine or Guinea squash, is a tender perennial plant from the nightshade family (Solanaceae), the same family as the tomato. Tomato and eggplant share a similar growth stage. They are categorized as indeterminate crops, capable of growing all year round and reaching substantial sizes when provided with sufficient nutrition and care.
The nightshade plant can be affected by various pests throughout its life cycle, such as whiteflies and worms. Whiteflies can be a nuisance for nightshade plants. These tiny, winged insects feed on plant sap, subsequently weakening the plants and excreting honeydew that encourages mold growth and also serves as an efficient vector for virus diseases.
Pyrethroid pesticide and Neonicotinoid insecticide are widely used for whitefly control. However, in some provinces in China, resistance to these active ingredients has dramatically increased over the years. For whitefly control, Sunjoy Agro recommends using Acetamiprid 100g/L + Bifenthrin 100g/L SC at a diluted rate of 1000-3000 times. This product combines two active ingredients at a perfect ratio with maximum synergy effect. It also demonstrates excellence in both quick-acting and long residual activities compared to single Acetamiprid or Bifenthrin products, especially in areas with high resistance to Pyrethroid and Neonicotinoid pesticides.
In 2024, Sunjoy Agro conducted field trials in China to test the control efficacy of Acetamiprid 100g/L + Bifenthrin 100g/L SC. 24 hours after application, the control efficacy still exceeded 90%. This product is quick-acting and has a longer duration compared to single active ingredient pesticide, lasting for at least 4 days.
