Control Rapeseed Aphids with APHISTAR
Insecticide
Rapeseed (Brassica napus), a crucial oilseed crop grown worldwide, is highly susceptible to aphid infestations throughout its growing period. Aphids, particularly Lipaphis erysimi and Myzus persicae, not only suck plant sap, weakening the crop, but also transmit viral diseases, resulting in significant yield and quality losses.
Aphids reproduce rapidly under favorable environmental conditions and often develop resistance to conventional insecticides due to their overuse. Additionally, heavy infestations can lead to curled leaves, stunted growth, and reduced flowering and pod formation. As a result, sustainable and effective aphid control strategies are essential to safeguard rapeseed productivity.
To address this challenge, Sunjoy Agro has developed Aphistar®, a targeted insecticide combining 13% Flonicamid and 10.4% Acetamiprid in an oil dispersion (OD) formulation. Aphistar® is designed for the selective control of piercing-sucking pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and planthoppers. It employs a dual mode of action that disrupts the feeding behavior of aphids, causing them to stop feeding within hours of application. This rapid “anti-feeding” effect leads to starvation and death, while preserving populations of beneficial insects.
In 2024, Aphistar® was tested in key rapeseed-growing regions in China. Trial results showed a 95% reduction in aphid populations within four days of application. In contrast, aphids in untreated control plots remained numerous and continued to damage the crops.
