Control Litchi Fruit Borer by PROMATCH
Insecticide
The litchi fruit borer (Conopomorpha sinensis Bradley), belonging to the order Lepidoptera and family Gracilariidae, is also known as the litchi stem-end borer. It is one of the major pests infesting lychee and longan. Adult moths lay eggs on the fruit surface, and the hatched larvae bore directly into the fruit or tender shoots, causing fruit drop, flesh rot, or forming black tunnels in young shoots that lead to withering of flower clusters. Mature larvae exit the host plant to spin cocoons on nearby leaves or fallen debris to pupate. This pest is prevalent in major lychee and longan production regions, such as China and Southeast Asia, and is challenging to control. Severe infestations can significantly reduce the market value of the fruits.
To address this issue, Sunjoy Agro launched a product named PROMATCH (Lufenuron 45%+ Chlorantraniliprole 30% WG), which utilized advanced low-temperature dry suspension technology to deliver high active ingredient content with superior stability. Lufenuron is a benzoylurea insect growth regulator that inhibits chitin synthesis, disrupting larval molting and leading to lethal deformities, particularly effective on eggs and early-stage larvae. Chlorantraniliprole is a diamide insecticide targeting the ryanodine receptor (RyR), causing uncontrolled calcium release, muscle paralysis, and rapid feeding cessation. It is highly effective against Lepidoptera larvae with long residual activity.
In 2024, Sunjoy Agro conducted field trials in Lianjiang, Guangdong, to evaluate the control efficacy of PROMATCH against litchi fruit borer. Three applications were made post-flowering (on April 18, April 26, and May 7) to investigate the fruit drop rates and continue to culture to assess the control effect. Results showed PROMATCH outperformed conventional insecticides in controlling larvae and eggs. When combined with 22% Thiamethoxam + Lambda-cyhalothrin (targeting adult moths), at 5000× dilution, PROMATCH achieved 100% control efficacy. The data confirmed the achievement of exceptional pest management at the recommended doses.
