Control Strawberry Fusarium Wilt by FUSARID

Insecticide

Fusarium wilt is an important disease impacting strawberries globally. Caused by the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. fragariae (Fof), the disease was first found in Australia in 1962, and then gradually found in various regions worldwide. The strawberry plants can show initial symptoms of decline as early as 30 days after transplanting. These plants will stop growing and become stunted when compared to healthy ones. However, initial symptoms of Fusarium wilt in strawberry often occur after the plants are well established and begin to flower or produce fruit. At this stage, the older leaves will wilt, turn gray-green in color, and begin to dry up. As the disease progresses, all the foliage will collapse and dry up, and the plant will eventually collapse and die. Since it is a soil-borne disease that can destroy strawberry plants severely, an effective method to prevent strawberry wilt is very important.

Sunjoy Agro recommends FUSARID (Prochloraz 15%+Fludioxonil 15% SE) to prevent and control Fusarium wilt in strawberries.

Prochloraz is an imidazole belonging to group 3, and its mode of action involves the inhibition of the enzyme lanosterol demethylase, which plays a key role in the biosynthesis of ergosterol—a critical component of fungal cell membranes. By disrupting ergosterol synthesis, Prochloraz increases membrane permeability, resulting in the leakage of essential cellular contents and ultimately causing cell death in the fungus. It is effective against ascomycetes and imperfects fungi that cause powdery mildews, leaf spots, and blights (anthracnose) and fruit rots.

Fludioxonil belongs to the chemical group 12, classified as phenylpyrroles. It inhibits fungal growth by targeting the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase pathway, disrupting cellular processes like growth, development, and stress response, and finally, this interference leads to fungus death. It is effective against diseases such as gray mold, sclerotinia, brown rot, powdery mildew, scab, anthracnose, and leaf spot.

The 1:1 combination of these two active ingredients with different mechanisms allows FUSARID to obtain a high co-toxicity coefficient, as well as expand the spectrum, and effectively reduce the number of applications required..

In 2023, Sunjoy Agro conducted a field trial in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. For FUSARID, we set up three dosage treatments: 1000, 2000, and 3000 times dilution separately, and compared them with the grower standard using Metalaxyl-M 37.5g/L + Fludioxonil 25g/L FS at a 500 times dilution, and a water spraying treatment as a blank control. We treated the newly planted strawberry plants two times by root irrigation on September 15th and September 30th. Seven days after the second application, we found that FUSARID showed better control effect than the grower standard, with the 1000 times dilution treatment having a control effect of 86.66%, followed by 2000 times dilution of FUSARID and 500 times dilution of Metalaxyl-M 37.5g/L + Fludioxonil 25g/L FS, both of which had about 73% effectiveness.
