Control Rice Blast by PADDYJOY

Fungicide

Rice blast, caused by Pyricularia oryzae, seriously threatens rice production globally. It reduces yields, degrades grain quality, and causes economic losses. Starting as leaf spots, it spreads rapidly, affecting stems, nodes, and panicles, leading to lodging and poor grain quality. Its fast spread and fungicide resistance necessitate the implementation of sustainable management practices.

Sunjoy Agro recommends Paddyjoy® (Tricyclazole 360g/L +Trifloxystrobin 60g/L SC) for the effective control of rice blast, as well as other rice diseases.

Tricyclazole is a unique fungicide specifically for the control of Pyricularia oryzae on rice. It is systemic in rice and will control rice blast disease at any stage of plant development through various application methods. Tricyclazole prevents the fungus from penetrating the plants’ epidermis, effectively safeguarding against infection. The compound acts by inhibiting melanization within the appressorium, thus causing a lack of rigidity in the appressorial wall.

Trifloxystrobin belongs to the strobilurin class of fungicides. It works as a mitochondrial respiration inhibitor that blocks electron transfer at the cytochrome bc1 Qo site. This systemic and permeable compound can be quickly distributed throughout the plant and show effective activity against a wide range of fungal pathogens, including Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, Oomycetes, and Deuteromycetes.

In July 2021, Sunjoy Agro conducted field trials to evaluate the efficacy of different crop protection products in preventing and controlling the spread of rice blast in Taiyang Town, Lin'an City. Paddyjoy® (Tricyclazole 360g/L +Trifloxystrobin 60g/L SC), Trifloxystrobin 25% + Tebuconazole 50% WDG, Difenoconazole 125g/L +Azoxystrobin 200g/L SC, Tricyclazole 75% WP, Isoprothiolane 400g/L EC, and an untreated control group were used in the early stage of rice blast disease. The fungicides were applied twice, with an interval of 8 days, using 675 liters of water per hectare.

The survey results showed that in the early stage of the disease, Paddyjoy® had a remarkable control effect on rice blast 21 days after the second application. Particularly, when applied at the dosage of 750-1050 ml/hectare, Paddyjoy® demonstrated significantly better effectiveness compared to the other treatments. In addition, Paddyjoy® is effective against other rice diseases, such as false smut and sheath blight. During the field trial, neither rice plants nor beneficial non-target organisms showed any adverse effects from the spraying of Paddyjoy®. Therefore, we strongly recommend Paddyjoy® for rice blast control.
