Control Pea Leafminer by Cyantraniliprole
Insecticide
Leafminer is a significant pest that affects a wide range of vegetable crops, particularly legumes. Its larvae tunnel through the leaves, creating mines that disrupt photosynthesis and lead to reduced plant growth and yield. Symptoms of an infestation include irregular, whitish mines on the upper side of the leaves and black frass within these mines. As the larvae mature, they leave the tunnels, causing the lower surface of the leaves to turn yellow or brown. Severe infestations can result in the death of the plant.
In April 2024, our planting base was hit by leafminers, causing damage to pea crops. To combat this destructive pest, we used Cyantraniliprole 10% OD, diluted 1500 times, and sprayed evenly on affected plants. The results were remarkable, as the treatment successfully suppressed the leafminer population by over 90% within a week. This rapid and sustained control is attributed to Cyantraniliprole's mechanism of action and translaminar activity (moves into and across the leaf surface). Cyantraniliprole is a novel diamide insecticide. It acts as an agonist of ryanodine receptors, disrupting calcium signaling and leading to insect paralysis and death. Its broad spectrum of activity encompasses various pests, including lepidopteran, coleopteran, and hemipteran species.
In contrast, another popular combination treatment using Avermectin and Cyromazine, while showing some effectiveness, did not perform as well as Cyantraniliprole. Cyromazine is a triazine insect growth regulator. It works by affecting the nervous system of the immature larval stages of certain insects. Avermectin stimulates the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system, a chemical “transmitter” produced at nerve endings, which inhibits both nerve-to-nerve and nerve-to-muscle communication. The picture shows leaves from left to right treated with Cyantraniliprole, Avermectin-Cyromazine, and left untreated, 7 days after spraying.
Thus, Sunjoy Agro recommends using Cyantraniliprole 10% OD diluted 1500 times and applying the insecticide as a leaf spray to control pea leafminer.
